Our students participated in University School’s Second Annual Chalk-a-lot. Â The event was originally inspired by the University of Northern Colorado’s successful attempt to break a chalk art Guinness Record.
Last year, University elementary students had a literature theme. Â This years theme was “summer”.
Our young elementary students had to carefully plan a design on graph paper in order to have a “blue print of their design”.
Each class was given a square of playground to design. Â First, we cleared our canvas of tiny rocks and dirt. Â Next, students used yard sticks and several mathematical calculations in order to divide the cement canvas into a large grid.
Finally, students selected a small paper square of our original graph paper plan, in order to recreate their section of the design. Â Slowly after about an hour our design became a chalk reality. Â Our students shared not only their artistic talents, but also worked together and exhibited amazing teamwork as a classroom community. Â We are SO proud of your great work!
