The Bear Game

IMG_1024The Bear Game was a great opportunity to learn outdoors.  Students got into “den groups”.  Each group representing one bear in nature.  All four of the bears involved had specific details that affected their ability to collect food (popsicle sticks).  For example, one bear had a porcupine injury and as a result was blind.  Another bear was a pregnant mother bear needing double the food.  The various popsicle sticks represented the different categories of food that bears typically consume.  All of the sticks also had a number which represented how many pounds of food were eaten.

This information was taken from a teaching resource called Project WILD which is all based on scientific fact.  Our students enjoyed a great game and they are able to better understand life as a bear, along with the concept of food scarcity.
